The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has just released its budget of Rs.74,427 cr for 2025-26. Here are 5 curious things about the BMC

• BMC's budget is 6 times the size of Bengaluru's (Rs 12,000 cr), 9 times the size of Hyderabad's (Rs. 8,000 cr), Chennai's (Rs. 7,800 cr).
• BMC has never issued a municipal bond.
• If you take away the compensation for octroi received from the state government, BMC's budget would be half of what it is.
• BMC performs civic functions that are way beyond the scope of other cities- it runs hospitals and medical colleges.
• BMC provides for pension and provident fund contributions for its employees in its budget.
