Bhopal Municipal Corporation Uses PPP Model to Transform Slum Settlements
Bhopal is launching a major central area redevelopment project-relocating 9 slum settlements near Vallabh Bhawan and building 14,000 permanent homes through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). In return, private developers will unlock 125 acres of prime land for commercial development, ensuring both social impact and financial viability.
This model echoes successful PPP-led slum rehabilitation efforts across Indian cities:
Mumbai's SRA model, now powering the Dharavi megaproject
Delhi's Kathputli Colony redevelopment with developer incentives
Ahmedabad and Pune's PPP efforts under BSUP and PMAY
Chennai's affordable housing PPPs, balancing equity and sustainability
Urban transformation in India is increasingly being driven by innovative municipal partnerships that reimagine land use, prioritize secure housing, and create investible urban spaces.
Cities are not just expanding-they are rethinking equity, infrastructure, and liveability.
